At Achmea, we cherish our cooperative heritage by working closely with our Strategic Alliances to build a safer and more future-proof society. Solidarity and community support were the driving forces behind the foundation of Achmea, where more than 200 years ago a group of farmers got together to protect themselves against haystack fires. Through its brands, the Achmea Group has supported the Netherlands in becoming the world’s second largest agricultural exporter.
As Australia’s specialist farm insurer, we are committed to protecting and enhancing agricultural communities. We focus on greater risk awareness and disaster reduction and work collaboratively with our Strategic Alliances in the industry to ensure a sustainable future in Australian agriculture.

GenAngus Future Leadership Program
Achmea has a proud Strategic Alliance with Angus Australia. Through our multi-year Strategic Alliance, Angus Youth and Achmea are delighted to deliver the second GenAngus Future Leaders Program in March 2020, designed to support Australia’s next generation of beef and agricultural leaders.
The GenAngus Future Leaders Program articulates Achmea’s strong history of excellence and knowledge sharing, spanning over two centuries. The program provides the resources to give the next generation of Australia’s beef and agricultural leaders the best chance to develop and learn and will help shape the industry for years to come.
The innovative program has been designed to advance the knowledge and skills of our young agricultural entrepreneurs. Run over twelve months, it includes an intensive three-day workshop, followed by a 12-month mentoring period to boost the growth and development of participants.
The program focuses on the importance of farm risk management, and the numerous ways that young farmers can build the resilience of their businesses. Key elements include financial planning, marketing and promotion, effective networking and the important role of farm and livestock insurance.
Cotton Australia Strategic Alliance
Cotton Australia and farm insurer Achmea Australia (Achmea) have announced a new strategic alliance that recognises cotton growers’ contribution to a sustainable future for the Australian cotton industry.
The new alliance will support cotton growers through an insurance reward for those who are certified through the Best Management Practices program (myBMP), Cotton Australia’s voluntary farm and environmental management program.
Rural Minds Strategic Alliance
Dedicated to keeping farmers farming by promoting and protecting agricultural communities across Australia, Achmea is proud to have a Strategic Alliance with Rural Minds
Rural Minds provides mental health and suicide prevention training for rural and agricultural communities.
Delivered throughout Australia, the program addresses the unique challenges faced by people who live and work in rural areas.
It equips participants with the knowledge, tools and resources to start potentially life-saving conversations.
Rural Minds has been shown to:
- Raise awareness and understanding of mental health;
- Reduce the stigma of mental illness; and
- Encourage people to seek help when they need it.
Rural Minds’ mission is to empower communities to stay mentally healthy. Our work continues thanks to the generous support of corporate donors who share our love for rural Australia.
Protecting your stud bulls from the moment the hammer falls
As well as Achmea’s funding support for the GenAngus Future Leadership Program, Achmea also offers market-leading rates stud stock insurance, designed to protect your stud bulls from the moment the hammer falls.
Our offering includes our comprehensive stud stock coverage with flexible options to manage the risks for stud stock including accidental loss of use, sickness and disease loss of use as well as mortality and transit cover.
Our flexibility in the level of cover allows farmers to choose the level of cover they need for their business and pay the appropriate premium applicable.
Achmea looks forward to another exciting year of our Strategic Alliance with Angus Australia in 2020.
Achmea was a Gold Partner of the 2018 Nuffield Australia National Conference, held in Melbourne in September.
Nuffield has been building the capacity of Australia’s food and fibre producers through research and innovation for over 60 years, and the National Conference brings together new and existing Nuffield Scholars, representatives from across the agriculture sector and producers from around the country.
With a theme of ‘Produce Change’, the two-day conference was full of inspiring research from returning Nuffield Scholars, and reflected the forward-thinking nature of Australian agriculture today.
Nuffield Scholars’ ground-breaking research sees them redefining agriculture in an age of innovation and unprecedented technological advances. Achmea is thrilled to have a Strategic Alliance with an organisation dedicated to promoting future industry game-changers through knowledge and global research.
We are delighted to support Limousin Australia ‘Capital on Carcase’ National Conference
The two-day industry wide conference was held in Armidale from 24-25 May in 2019 for all beef producers and industry stakeholders.
